February 2012.

By Isabella Griffiths

Boutique tradeshow Scoop International showcased more than 180 exclusive collections across womenswear, accessories and footwear in the chic and beautiful setting of the Saatchi Gallery.

The exhibition was set amidst the ongoing exhibition “Gesamtkunstwerk”, creating an impressive symbiosis of fashion and art.

The hand-picked selection of brands included prestigious designer names, bridge collections and niche labels from the likes of Patrizia Pepe, Day Birger et Mikkelsen, Orla Kiely and Filippa K, as well as Studio Nicholson, Gloverall, European Culture, Handwritten and Bastyan, to name but a few.

Displaying their a/w 12 collections, most brands put a strong emphasis on knitwear, which took centre stage in all shapes and guises.

From oversized jumpers with graphic motifs, through boxy cardigans to fur-trimmed knitted coats, the mix was as eclectic as the brands themselves.

Outerwear was also among the highlights, with capes, fur jackets, crisply tailored macs and oversized wool coats the key design directions.

Other trends ranged from glamorous sequins and more subtle lamé styles, which added an eye-catching edge to the collections.

On the other end of the scale was extreme minimalism, with clean lines, plain materials and crisp tailoring dominating styles, including sophisticated shift dresses, simple blazers and unfussy blouses maximising this trend to perfection.

WWB’s favourites included 2BRych’s dresses, which creatively mixed textures and materials; Plein Sud’s leather styles, which included some very stylish leather skinnies; and Lavenham’s heritage jackets, to wrap up warm against the cold.
