May 2012.

Department store Hoopers injects colour and fun into its latest window displays.

Visual merchandisers from Harrogate, Torquay and Tunbridge Wells talk to WWB's Carey Whitwam about their latest eye-catching creations.

Each store has taken a different approach to spring, with bright and bold colours influencing the Harrogate store.

"We shrugged off the grey cold winter days to embrace the spring/summer season," says Bob Ritchie, of Hoopers in Harrogate.

"We wanted to enhance the bold colours of our products with equally bold background colours and finally decided on a Mondrian look so customers are in no doubt that summer is on the way," Ritchie adds.

Hoopers in Torquay has taken inspiration from spring pastel colours, by creating a display representing the quintessential British seaside town.

"With 2012 being a huge year for Great Britain, we wanted our spring windows to celebrate our heritage as a great British seaside town," says Lee Warner, of Hoopers in Torquay.

"We wanted to have fun with the windows and create feelings of nostalgia and tradition and thought what better way to do this than with giant ice creams?" Warner adds.

"We knew pastel colours were going to be huge for spring/summer 2012 and that our pastel ice creams would look fabulous with this trend," he explains.

Tim Taylor, from Tunbridge Wells, tells WWB how his team decided to go with a Japanese theme after being influenced by Japanese floral arrangements.

"We’ve been inspired by the fresh, painterly qualities of the beautiful new Designers Guild Madame Butterfly fabric," he explains.

"Vibrant cerise magnolia blooms make a strong, fresh colour statement and lead the eye to overblown Japanese influenced floral arrangements," he adds.

"The Japanese theme is subtly continued with cleverly pleated and detailed tailoring and statement silk prints from Sportmax, which are complemented by contemporary linens from Nicole Farhi," continues Taylor.

"All accessorised with beautiful bags in bold fresh colours from Mulberry's s/s collection and sharp snakeskin from Michael Kors, with sunglasses by Chanel and Fendi," he concludes.
